KELLY Morgan’s trainer Richard Farnan is hoping that former world title challenger Szilvia Szabados will underestimate his charge this weekend.

Swindon-based Morgan will make her professional debut on Saturday at the Grange Drive Community Centre on the New Generation show.

And while the 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist is no stranger to the ring having boxed as an amateur on the Swindon white-collar scene, facing an opponent who fought for a world title last October is altogether a different prospect.

“I’m looking at a certain way for Kelly to approach (the fight) first of all,” said Farnan.

“I’m looking to give Kell the advantage and take the play away from Szlivia.

“I have said to Kell, there is no doubt that this girl will come to fight. She is not going to be one of the white-collar girls that she has fought in the past that is going to run as soon as she feels Kelly’s power, this girl will be there.”

But while expecting a tough test from the London-based Hungarian, Farnan says that it has been difficult to conduct any research on Szabados.

“There is a video of her doing some pads, that is the only thing I can find,” the trainer added.

“She looks sharp, short and compact, with not a lot of head movement, not a lot of lateral movement and predominantly throwing straight shots.

“But, to be honest, that tells you nothing - everybody can look good on the bags, but when you have an opponent in front of you throwing shots back, that is when you gauge how good a fighter is.

“The idea is to try and keep range, put it on her and let Kelly’s presence be felt and then gauge the reaction.”

With Szabados fighting for a world title last year, Farnan says the Hungarian could take Morgan lightly.

"It's a possibility," said Farnan.

“After losing the world title fight she then had another defeat, which was against a girl (Melinda Lazar) making her debut.

“If you look at the scoring on that fight, she did lose every round.

“It is difficult to gauge the level at where these women are, because the girl that Szilvia lost to last time then went to America and lost to a girl making her debut.

“We will just go in there with our own gameplan to do what we do.

“At the end of the day, Szilvia is going to have to adjust to what Kelly is doing.”
