THE future of Walcot Boxing Club looks bright after a host of promising youngsters won awards at its presentation evening at the County Ground Hotel.

Around 70 invited guests attended the end of season bash hosted by the most successful amateur boxing club in the Western Counties over the past 10 years.

Twelve-year-old Drew Hunt was one of the stars of the night, receiving two awards after the youngster enjoyed a successful season.

The Dorcan schoolboy won a gold medal at the Bristol Box Cup for the second year running, and now has an impressive career record of eight wins from 10 bouts.

Twelve-year-old Bill Harris won the ‘Most Improved Boxer’ award. The pint-sized terrier also won gold at the Bristol Box Cup, as well as enjoying some important victories on club shows.

Orgest Peroshi, 17, won the ‘Best Intermediate Boxer’ award.

The Wroughton-based Albanian won a lot of fans throughout last season with his ‘all action’ style.

Professional jockey Felix De Giles retained his ‘Best Senior Boxer’ shield, after an unbeaten season.

Thirteen-year-old Mikey McDonagh took the ‘Best Junior Boxer’ prize after reaching the national final of last season’s schoolboy championship.

Bond also won the ‘Best Club Boy’ award after a season where he was an ever-present in the gym.

Twenty other awards for improvement and effort were presented to youngsters aged from seven to 18.

Walcot chief coach Harry Scott summed up the evening, saying: “It was a great evening enjoyed by all, and it showed that we have a lot of youngsters coming through.

“Thanks to John McGrath for helping present the trophies, the Khyber for supplying the food, and our gym landlord Paul Rocker for his valued support throughout the year.

“Well done to all the winners, let’s hope we have a successful 2015-16.”
