KELLY Morgan says that she is a relieved woman as she prepares to make her professional debut tomorrow night.

The 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist will get her paid boxing career under way at the Bath Pavilion on the undercard of Malmesbury’s Joe Hughes’ English light-welterweight title bid when she faces Hungarian Klaudia Vigh.

However, the former England netball international was originally meant to make her bow last month on the cancelled New Generation show in Swindon against world number four super-middleweight Szilvia Szabados.

But problems with the issuing of her licence from the British Boxing Board of Control meant she had to withdraw.

“I was absolutely devastated that I couldn’t make my debut then,” Morgan said. “I’d worked so hard in training.

“The camp had gone so well and I felt that I would have gone into the fight with some momentum.

“So when I had to withdraw I was gutted. Rich Farnan (Morgan’s trainer) put me on a week’s rest and recovery and boy did I need it.

“But they’ve pulled it out the bag to get me on this show and I’m making my debut tomorrow – I’m very relieved.”

Although Szabados was unavailable this weekend, the Hungarian faced Germany’s Nikki Addler for the WBC super-middleweight title last night, Morgan has been given an easier test with Vigh coming to the ring having lost eight of her 11 contests.

But the former army senior sergeant, who has served both in Afghanistan and Iraq, says that she won’t be treating the 25-year-old lightly.

“Yes, her record isn’t as good as Szilvia, but she is far more experienced than me,” the ABA silver medallist said.

“She has been around and I have to be ready for her.

“Once we have fought then I will look at what happens next.

“Szilvia is still on our radar and we will be looking to try and get her in the ring in September or October.”

Meanwhile, Hughes will be aiming to inflict a first defeat on Anthony Hardy in the main event.

The Malmesbury fighter is looking to add the vacant English strap to his growing list of titles have already been crowned an International Masters, Southern Area and IBO International champion in his last three fights.

However, his opponent from County Durham has won all of his seven contests to date, but has never been slated to go beyond six rounds before this evening.
