HOT-FOOTING it into a world title challenge is a distinct possibility for Kelly Morgan, according to her trainer Richard Farnan.

The 35-year-old, a former Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist and England netball international, shone on her long-awaited debut in Bath last weekend, disposing of Hungarian Klaudia Vigh in little more than a half a round.

Morgan was made to wait for her first taste of ring action after the Swindon fighter’s original scheduled debut at the Grange Drive Community Centre last month was cancelled due to a delay in the issuing of her licence.

In June, Morgan was due to be pitted against 24-year-old Szilvia Szabados, who was out-pointed by Germany’s Nikki Adler for the WBC world female super-middleweight title last Friday.

That was the Hungarian’s second world title shot and after discussions with matchmaker Oscar Milkitas, trainer Farnan says that Szabados remains in Morgan’s sights as she looks to navigate a swift route to world level.

“I’ve already spoken to the agent (Milkitas) and possibly in October, we’ll get Szilvia Szabados, who we originally wanted to fight,” said Farnan.

“Oscar basically said to us on Saturday: ‘you’re not going to have to get Kelly 10 fights before she fights for a world championship’. He reckons four or five fights.

“I just think it’s a case that Kelly’s so powerful that she’s just going to blast her way through people and she’s that powerful that not many people are going to want to fight her, so we go straight for the top.

“At the end of the day, that’s what we’ll prepare for.”

Vigh survived a long count after being knocked down on Saturday night before the contest was brought to a halt with one minute 34 seconds on the clock following a second flooring.

A victorious Morgan said: “I’m just so hungry for the next one now. I really don’t feel like it’s sunk in but I’m sure it will.

“It felt like I waited an eternity, in respect to the show in Swindon being cancelled, my manager Keith (Mayo) falling ill and my boxing equipment being stolen from my car – I was so relieved to get out there.

“I wanted to send out a message and it was emphatic.

“Compared to the guys, there aren’t as many female boxers, so the route to a world championship is shorter. That’s the reality.

“A fight with Szabados is what I’m gunning for. She’s fourth in the world and if that fight goes the way we think it will, I’ll pretty much be at world level.”
