JOE Hughes is set to make the first defence of his English light-welterweight title in Swindon next month.

The 25-year-old was crowned the king of England’s 140 pound fighters in July with a split decision points victory over Anthony Hardy in Bath.

Now Hughes will put that title on the line on the Lights Out Show at the Oasis Leisure Centre on Saturday, October 24, with the opponent sill to be confirmed.

With the Malmesbury fighter headlining the night, Chippenham’s Ben Heap is set to make his professional debut.

The former kick-boxing champion was previously in line for his debut over the weekend in Gloucester, but he had not received his paperwork through in time.

Swindon’s unbeaten welterweight prospect Ryan Martin will be fighting for his first title in only his sixth fight.

The 21-year-old former Walcot and England amateur, who claimed a second knock-out of Linas Mestavicius on Saturday in Gloucester, will tackle the dangerous southpaw Faheem Khan over eight rounds for a new Challenge title.

Khan’s last trip to the Oasis back in February saw him upset the odds when stopping the Paddy Fitzpatrick-trained Garvey Kelly.

Kelly has since bounced back from that shock loss with a fifth round stoppage of Hungarian Gabor Feher in County Derry in May.

The 27-year-old will return to the scene of his only pro loss on the same bill looking to build his spring success.

Unbeaten Luke Watkins will join Martin as chief support at the Oasis as the Fitzpatrick-trained cruiserweight make his first appearance since February due to a string of niggling injuries.

Light-welterweight Danny Bharj will make his third appearance as a professional with the former Walcot and England amateur coming into the bout on the back of points win over Ibrar Riyaz.

Middleweight Kelly Morgan will look to continue her fast track to the top as she makes her second outing as a professional boxer.

Swindon’s 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist will face Georgian Elene Sikmashvili, who will come to the Oasis with eight wins from nine bouts.

Swindon journeyman Joe Beeden gets a rare opportunity to fight on home soil, while Gloucester’s Akeem Ennis-Brown has been added to the bill following his win over Liam Richards at the weekend.

Tickets for the show are priced £60 ringside and £35 unreserved. For more contact any of the boxers or visit www.kmpromotions.co.uk
