KELLY Morgan is looking to hit the continent before Christmas as she looks to continue her rise to the top.

Following her all-out war with Melinda ‘Angry Bird’ Lazar on Saturday at the Oasis Leisure Centre, where Morgan took a 58-56 points decision, the 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist is already looking to her next fight.

But with no local shows in the near future, the 35-year-old wants to get over to mainland Europe before Christmas.

The Richard Farnan-trained fighter said: “We are back in the gym today and we are hoping to box by Christmas.

“With me having to fight girls from overseas the next home show is not until March, so I would love to get out to Europe.

“The reality of selling enough tickets to get an opponent over here is impossible, so I need a fight abroad.

“I can just turn up and box, I know I won’t have the crowd and it will be a tougher prospect.”

Morgan says that she learnt a lot from her fight against the Hungarian and knows that she must improve on her footwork and defence in the near future.

On Saturday, the former England netball international was caught a number of times by Lazar as she looked for an opening of her own.

“She was a little powerhouse,” Morgan added. “She was fit and powerful. She was throwing shots like a javelin.

“They were coming over the top and across into my head.

“I was trying to cover up when she came in, but I need to work on my footwork and will continue to do so and move out the way before it comes.

“I tried to box at range, but she was good and came through the shots.

“She used (her lack of height) to her advantage. In her debut she beat number four in the world (Szilvia Szabados) so she is decent.

“I’m really pleased that I have boxed her and came out on top.

“My footwork, my defence are my two things I need to work on.”
