KELVIN Young says that he is going to have to produce one of the best performances of his career to become a two-time Southern Area super-middleweight champion.

The Penhill pugilist is heading to London to face the unbeaten reigning champion Darryll Williams on Friday, December 4, at the Camden Centre.

And, with Williams’ last three opponents not hearing the final bell, Young knows that he is going to have to be at his best.

“He is a big puncher and, if you look at his record, maybe they are expecting to blast me out but I have got plenty of experience over this distance,” Young told the Adver.

“I know that I am going to have to produce one of my performances to win, but I’m excited and I can’t wait.”

Young heads into the fight on the back of a draw with Kieron Gray for the British Classic Challenge light-heavyweight title.

The 28-year-old felt that he showed improvements from his previous outings in that contest last month but knows he will have to step it up if he is to beat the man nicknamed Ferocious.

Young goes into the bout having never lost a title fight in his career having previously won this belt in 2012, after winning the International Masters middleweight crown before becoming the IBO inter-continental super-middleweight champion in 2013.

“I knew about this fight before my last one,” Young said. “I’m really excited to be fighting for the Southern Area again. It is a great title to have and I’d love it back.”
