KELLY Morgan is hoping to show improvements in her defence when she fights next month.

The Swindon-based 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist will make her third outing in professional boxing at the Grange Leisure Centre on December 20.

And the 35-year-old is looking to showcase some new defensive skills after her all-out war with Melinda Lazar.

Although Morgan got the points decision and forced the Hungarian to take a knee, the former England netball international shipped too many punches in doing so.

“We have been working on my defence since the last fight,” said Morgan, who had four amateur fights in 2007 and two white-collar contests before turning professional this year.

“It is not something that comes naturally to me – I’m a come forward fighter.

“I’m hoping that whoever we get, I’m able to put into practice what I’ve been doing in training.”

Morgan got her career started in the summer with a blistering first-round stoppage of Klaudia Vigh in Bath. The former Army sergeant then had plenty of support at the Oasis Leisure Centre for the Lazar contest.

“Coming from a military background and moving around a lot, I have never had any roots until I came to Swindon and I’m so grateful,” Morgan said.
