KELVIN Young was quickly stopped on his television debut as he was beaten by Leon McKenzie after just 43 seconds.

Young headed to the Copper Box Arena for this English super-middleweight title final eliminator against the former Premier League footballer after a disappointing 2015.

The 28-year-old opened last year with an uninspiring draw with journeyman Joe Walsh, and while Young beat the Croydon man later in the year, another draw beckoned for the former IBO inter-continental and Southern Area super-middleweight champion – this time against Kieron Gray.

Young looked set to fight for his old Southern Area belt in December before a neck injury to Darryll Williams forced the contest off.

Then he was handed his shot against McKenzie and a chance to show case his skills on Sky Sports.

However, it wasn’t to be for Young, as the 37-year-old, whose father Clinton was a British and European light-welterweight champion and his uncle Duke a three-weight world champion, was quickly into his stride.

The former Norwich City striker caught Young with a heavy that rocked the Penhill pugilists to his boots.

But Young looked to have gotten over that before a big left had him on the canvas within 30 seconds and was counted out by Terry O’Connor.

"Enough respect to Kelvin and I wish him all the best," McKenzie told Sky Sports after the fight.
