CIRENCESTER ABC’s Jimmy McDonagh reached the semi-finals of the England Boxing Youth Championships after winning his quarter-final in Rotherham.

Following his success on the Friday night against his opponent, from Northside, McDonagh then faced a boxer from Liverpool’s renowned Rotunda ABC in the last four.

However, the Cirencester boxer lost on a split decision against the eventual winner.

The club also sent three boxers to Cheltenham, where all returned home victorious.

First up was Mickey McDonagh, who faced an experienced boxer from Cardigan ABC in what was an all action bout.

McDonagh kept the pressure on, not allowing the Welsh boxer to get his range.

The Cirencester youngster caught his opponent with uppercuts and left hooks to take a split decision win.

Thomas Varey was up next for Cirencester against another boxer from Cardigan.

Varey dictated the pace from the opening bell, pressuring his opponent with combinations to take a unanimous points decision.

Last on for Cirencester ABC was national champion Jordan Wall against a boxer from Bristol’s Sweatbox Club.

Wall found it difficult to get his shots off in the opening round as his opponent was continuously holding. The Sweatbox boxer took a public warning in the third round for holding but by then, Wall was in front on points and won on a unanimous points decision.

Cirencester travel to Wales at the weekend, while Wall travels to Kettering in Northamptonshire, where he boxes on Sunday.
