JORDAN O’Donoghue thrilled a packed Supermarine Sports and Social Club with an exciting comeback victory at the Walcot ABC show, writes DAVE VEYSEY.

The 17-year-old was entering the ring for the first time after a two-year break from the sport and met the unbeaten Jade Croom, from the Emeralds club in Chippenham, over three two-minute rounds.

After three tough rounds, the Swindon hairdresser was awarded a unanimous points victory by the ringside judges.

She was one of four Walcot winners on an 18-fight bill.

The first home boxer to have his arm raised by referee Mike Hemming was Alex Masters.

The determined 12-year-old won a close battle with Kai Ademi, from Downend ABC in Bristol, by a split points decision.

Walcot newcomer Josh Fox found a novel way to celebrate his 15th birthday – easily outpointing Vinny Smith, from Cheltenham Kings ABC, in front of his friends and family.

The fourth Walcot winner was Wiktor Zioltkowski, who was also making his ring debut, the 17-year-old beating Yeovil’s Ben Pearce by a split points decision.

Walcot 18-year-old Brandon Spillane was coasting to victory during his light heavyweight bout with Malmesbury’s Sam Kirby, when he got caught with a big right hand and hit the deck. The bout was waved off with just moments remaining in the second round.

Joshua Harkness, 13, appeared to have edged an all-action contest with Downend’s Harry Simons, only to lose on points, whilst Antonio Masi, 17, impressed on his ring debut but lost narrowly on points to Jacques Chappell, from Synwell ABC.

Western Counties schoolboy champions Drew Hunt, 13, and Luke Scott Browne, 14, both lost exciting bouts to Tyler Kelly (Frome) and Harry O’Grady (Hall Green) respectively.

Twelve-year-old Fred Bond lost a local battle with Freddie Woodcock, from Swindon’s Horseshoe gym, whilst Kyran Rouse, 11, came off second best against Blandford’s Caleb Turner.

Lewis Edwards, 13, lost to Hall Green’s Saqlf Ali and senior heavyweight Richard Lloyd lost on debut to Chris Alderson, from Cheltenham Academy.

Guest of honour, Swindon professional Danny Bharj, himself a former amateur with Walcot, awarded the ‘Best Walcot Boxer’ shield to 12-year-old Paris O’Donoghue, despite the Dorcan schoolgirl losing her bout with Shanay Robinson, from London's Double Jab gym.

Exhibition contests involved Walcot’s Aidan Penney, Taylor Kelly and Devonte O’Brien.

Chief coach Harry Scott said: "Although we did not win as many contests as I would have liked, all our boxers gave 100 per cent effort and that’s all we can ask for.

“We had several youngsters making their debuts and they will learn a lot from it. I would like to thank everyone who made the show possible, especially our main sponsor Vince Gibbs.’’ CIRENCESTER ABC’s Sammy Varey, 11, clinched a unanimous points decision on his ring debut for the club at a show hosted by Ana ABC in Wales.
