CIRENCESTER ABC claimed three out of three Western Counties titles in the schools and minors championships held in Chard.

Eleven-year-old Sammy Varey, boxing in the 30-32kg weight class against the experienced Owen Heard, from Trowbridge ABC, won on a split decision.

Johnny Varey, 14, boxing in the 38-40kg category against Lenny Penfold, from Ferndown ABC, triumphed on a points decision.

The duo join teammate Lewis Varey who received a bye to the pre-quarters down in Bodmin on Saturday but clubmateBilly Harris did not make the weight and was pulled out.

Coach Simon Knowles said: “We have a great coaching team and we all play our part, let’s keep it going.’’ Cirencester ABC now have a total of eight Western Counties champions in the gym this season alone, all at different weight categories.

Club boxers travel to Bristol on Friday with four in action before heading on to Bodmin on Saturday for the Schools and Minors Championships.

On the same day Thomas Varey and Ethan Frayling box on an evening show in Lympstone.
