RYAN Martin knows that he cannot afford any slip-ups when he faces Arvydas Trizno next month.

The unbeaten welterweight makes his return to the ring on Friday, June 10, on the 'New Beginning' show at Grange Drive Leisure Centre after an absence of eight months due to injury and cancellations.

The 22-year-old, who is chief support to Kelly Morgan’s WBC Silver middleweight title tilt, is pleased that he is able to put a period of inactivity behind him as he looks to secure his seventh professional win.

Martin, who is also being lined up to join the WBC Youth programme, says that he expects the Lithuanian to give him a tougher test then many expect.

“This guy has had a full training camp, he should come and try and take the win, which is what I need,” Martin said.

“It is (a fight to blow away the cobwebs), but I think the opponent will be a little bit tougher than that.

“I didn’t want to come back and come in and wipe someone out or someone to tuck up behind the gloves – I wanted someone who would come and have a fight.”

The former Walcot and England amateur says that he is not expecting any late changes in opponents with Trizno not scheduled to fight before his trip to Swindon.

“When the opponent changes, it throws you off, but I feel that I’m able to deal with that,” added Martin.

“It does throw you when you are trying train for one style and then you go from boxing a 5ft 6in stocky guy to a tall southpaw who moves on the backfoot – it changes the game plan completely.

“This has been nice and comfortable, because he hasn’t got any fights booked out.”
