TRAINER Richard Farnan believes he has seen enough of Gifty Ankrah to formulise a successful gameplan for Kelly Morgan.

The adopted Swindonian headlines the New Beginning show at Grange Drive Leisure Centre on Friday June 10 as she fights for the vacant WBC Silver middleweight female title.

Victory for Morgan, who has only had three professional fights, would put her in line for a shot at the WBC world title.

The 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medalist’s trainer, who has previously struggled to find any footage of Morgan other opponents, feels that the Ghanaian, while admitting she is teak tough, will be no match for his charge.

“I have got enough (footage of Ankrah),” Farnan said. “I know what she does.

“When we were out in Mexico we met up with other boxers, one of them was Nikki Adler and she has fought Gifty.

“We have got fight footage of that, she (Adler) said that Gifty has got a hard head, which is fine, but she has weaknesses, a lot of weaknesses and Kelly will expose them.”

At the start of Morgan’s camp, the 35-year-old was sparring with Sweden’s WBC super-welterweight world female champion Mikaela Lauren ahead of her title defence last month.

Farnan says that it is from those sparring sessions in London has got him excited for June 10.

“Kelly’s strength at this moment in time is quite insane,” he said. “The only female sparring partner that been able to withstand the distance has been Mikaela.

“On one occasion before her world title defence Kelly nearly took her (Lauren) out twice in that spar.

“One of them was in the first round, she walked on to a right hand and how Mikaela stayed on her feet I don’t know.

“I’m expecting a tough 10-round fight but Kelly should win on points – I would say unanimously because her boxing has come on fantastically well, as have her footwork and her lateral movement - she is looking good at the minute.”

However, Farnan admitted that it has been tricky keeping Morgan fresh for fight night.

The former England netball international was due to face Ankrah in March only for the show to be cancelled five days before the bout was supposed to happen.

After giving her a week off, the trainer has had to juggle her rest days.

“Because of the cancellation of the March show I told Kelly that she was having a week off,” he said. “We came back in and slowly built her up to where she is now are firing on all cylinders.

“It is tricky you have to recognise the sign of fatigue. A few of weeks ago, Kelly was fatigued, so I gave the day off and she came back in the next day and she has been on fire since.”
