KELLY Morgan admits that it will be a battle to try and keep a lid on her emotions for the rest of the week as she gears up for the biggest fight of her life.

The 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist is potentially one fight away from a shot at a WBC world middleweight title when she meets Germany’s Lisa Cielas on Friday night for the WBC Silver belt.

Should the 35-year-old be victorious at Grange Drive Leisure Centre, she will become world champion Kali Reis’ mandatory challenger.

However, before Morgan can think about the American, she knows that she has to deal with Cielas, who has come in as a last minute replacement for Gifty Ankrah.

“This is huge, my goodness a WBC Silver title,” Morgan said. “The title is one thing, but the doors that it may open, it is an opportunity that I can’t miss.

“I’m trying not to think about that. I’m trying to think that this is just another fight, there is the potential there to over-think that. There is a lot at stake.

“We have no idea of what is going to turn up so I’m not thinking about anything else (except Lisa Cielas).”

As the former England netball international completes her final training session this morning, Morgan says that she will try and stay as relaxed as she possibly can between now and fight night.

“Training has been good, everything is in place as best as it can be, it all depends what she brings but we feel that we are in a good place,” she said.

“I like to keep going – if nothing else, it keeps me occupied.

“We will probably have our last session on Wednesday morning and then it will be a case of keeping the head cool when the body is quiet.

“I do lots of icing, walk the dog and maybe I’ll go with my mum to something like a spa day.

“Anything to keep relaxed because that is the most important thing.”

Morgan’s title clash with Cielas tops the bill of Neilson Boxing’s first professional show New Beginning.

Chief support to her bout is unbeaten welterweight and training partner Ryan Martin, who faces Lithuanian journeyman Arvydas Trizno in a six-round contest.

Luke Watkins will also be in action on Friday night after the undefeated cruiserweight boxer was added to the card last week and he meets Latvia’s Reinis Poporovs.

Gloucester’s super-lightweight Akeem Ennis-Brown fights Kristian Laight, while Ross Newton tackles Bryn Wain and Des Newton completes the line-up when he faces Qasim Hussain.

There will be a public weigh-in at Scrappers’ Gym at Langley Road on Thursday at 4.30pm for Morgan and Martin.
