LEWIS Roberts made it three wins in as many contest at the weekend when he made the long trip to fight in Cornwall.

The Devizes ABC youngster, who trains under Paddy Fitzpatrick at his Ferndale Road gym, travelled to Bude full of confidence to face Tamar ABC’s Nathan Martin Roberts boxed beautifully and was full of confidence following his victory in Bristol the previous week.

Martin set the pace for as long as the fight lasted taking it to his opponent, however, Roberts worked off the counter and forced the home fighter to take a standing count at the end of the first round.

Roberts took the fight to Martin in the second trapping him in his own corner before unleashing a barrage of shots to the body before a hook to the head saw the towel thrown in.

“I was delighted with Lewis,” said Fitzpatrick. “He has been with me since he was six years old and I call him little Duke (after Fitzpatrick’s unbeaten professional cruiserweight Luke Watkins).

“He takes so much from Duke and he is very close with him.

“We went down to Cornwall the night before and he was full of confidence and that time he had his opponent in the corner was pure brilliance.”
