TRAINER Rich Farnan backs Ryan Martin to have a world title fight within two years after a punch-perfect performance from the Swindon fighter at Grange Leisure Centre last week.

Martin’s performance against Arvydas Trizno, despite being out of the ring for eight months, impressed many as he tallied his seventh win in as many contests.

Farnan has been working with the 22-year-old welterweight for his last three bouts and believes his man could soon be on his way to a world title fight in a year or two.

“Ryan will go on to fight for a world title I have no doubt about that, that could be in a year or two’s time,” said Farnan “We have had three fights together and I hope that people can see he’s improved.

“We’ve got a very tight close team, we do it all together and we feed off each other, we are so committed we will go anywhere.” Farnan added.

The Keith Mayo-managed 22-year-old had also been sparring with former English champion and Malmesbury-based Joe Hughes as he looked to shed any ring rust ahead of the fight.

Farnan said: “He’s been sparring with (Bristol light-middleweight) Danny Butler and Joe Hughes.

“He holds his own. With that kind of sparring that is what you need to be able to come in after eight months and not look rusty and to come in and be dominant.”

“Ryan has been too inactive, out of my control out of his control he needs to be busy and by the end of the year he needs at least another four fights, why would you hold him back. If he can get a fight in July great.”

Farnan claims Martin, who has been linked with joining the WBC Youth programme, has a ‘fantastic boxing brain’ and that he ‘picked his shots beautifully’ against an awkward opponent.

Farnan said: “Every time he tried to get his shots off Trizno just tied him up but to the point where he couldn’t move so he couldn’t work himself free.

“Trizno is so experienced he knew how to survive. I thought he was fairly disciplined - Ryan didn’t put a foot wrong.”
