RICHARD Farnan will today look to attempt to land Kelly Morgan a world title fight this autumn.

The WBC Silver middleweight champion, who saw her title defence against Maricela Cornejo in California next month fall through, has been cleared to face either middleweight champion Kali Reis or super-middleweight queen Nikki Adler this autumn.

However, Farnan, who trains and manages the 2002 Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist, admits that Morgan may have to wait until Easter to land her dream shot.

“The fight in California in August is not happening,” Farnan said.

“It has taken ages to try and get hold of people there, there are so many promoters involved so we have moved on.

“(WBC Female chairman) Malte (Muller) came back to us and he was very apologetic, he couldn’t get hold of anyone at Maricela’s team.

“But with that falling through, he has come back to us and mentioned that they would be happy to put Kelly forward for a full world title fight - potentially in either October or November.

“However, this might not happen until April. Kali Reis doesn’t have to defend her title until April, Nikki is not really having mandatories – she has had her title for so long now.”

The WBC also said they would be happy to see Morgan face Christina Hammer, the leading middleweight in the world.

Hammer, Reis and Adler all had fights on Friday night with all three coming through their respective bouts unscathed.

WBO champion Hammer stopped Melinda Lazar, who Morgan beat last October, in a non-title contest, while Reis claimed a points win over Althea Saunders – also in a non-title bout.

Adler, however, successfully defended her WBC crown by stopping Elene Sikmasvili, a former target of Morgan, in the ninth round.

“Now that those fights are out of the way, we can start making contact with their teams,” Farnan said. “At this stage we know we are not ready for the experience of someone like Christina Hammer.

“We are not really fussed which one of the other two it would be.

“Of course, ideally, it would be Kali because that is the weight Kelly is at.

“If it was to be Nikki, then we would need to sort it as soon as possible and then consult a sports nutritionist to put on the weight correctly.”
