RYAN Martin is undecided if he will become a permanent fixture in Paddy Fitzpatrick’s stable after making a switch to the Irish trainer for his latest bout.

Swindon welterweight Martin has previously been under the guidance of Richard Farnan but will instead have Fitzpatrick in his corner when he takes to the ring on the ‘Talk is Cheap’ show at the Oasis Leisure Centre at the end of this month.

Unbeaten Martin is a late addition to the card for the November 26 event and will see him take part in his eighth pro fight and first since June.

That previous bout came on the back of an eight-month absence from the ring and after having just one outing in more than a year, Martin felt a change in approach was needed to galvanise his career.

“I have been in the gym with Paddy doing bits and pieces. I have got a couple more weeks sparring left before the fight and it will just be touching up what we have done already,” said Martin.

“From my perspective, it was nothing anyone else did. I think a change was just something that I needed to do.

“With it being so stop-start in my career, I was getting a bit disillusioned with it and I just needed to freshen up.

“I have been cursed with my hands so I’ve had a lot of time between fights in the past but that’s part of the game and it’s out of my control.

“I have worked with Paddy before, back when I was an amateur. I know what he is about and I know what I am getting into bed with.

“I am not looking too far ahead. We will just get this one out of the way. The future doesn’t really depend on how this fight goes, we will just assess where we are afterwards.”

Martin was only added to the Oasis show last week but was eager to return to action for the first time since extending his unblemished record to 7-0 in a comfortable points victory over Lithuanian Arvydas Trizno in the summer.

Although his opponent for this month’s bout is yet to be confirmed, Martin jumped at the chance to fight in his home town again.

“It was a bit of a late call but I haven’t fought since June, so I am looking forward to getting back in the ring in Swindon. It’s something I enjoy doing, fighting in front of family and friends,” said Martin.

“We are still working on an opponent but I am sure something will be confirmed in the next week or so.”

Light heavyweight ‘Sniper’ Sam Smith, also trained by Fitzpatrick, headlines the November 26 show, with another of the Irishman’s fighter’s, Luke ‘the Duke’ Watkins, the chief support.

The event will also feature the swansong of Swindon’s former IBO Intercontinental super-middleweight champion Kelvin Young, who will compete in a final fight in front of home fans before retiring.
