KELLY Morgan’s manager Richard Farnan says that he will be contacting the WBC after Nikki Adler announced that her next fight will not be against the Swindon boxer.

Adler, the WBC world female super-middleweight champion from Germany, was ordered last week by the governing body to defend her belt against former Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist Morgan.

However, while the period of free negotiation is still open, the undefeated German announced that her next fight will be for the vacant Global Boxing Union and Women’s IBF belts on March 11.

With Adler, who has only made two defences of her WBC title – against Elene Sikmasvili and Szilvia Szabados – since claiming the vacant crown in 2013, now looking at other accolades, there is plenty of uncertainty over what happens next for Morgan.

“I’m going to be contacting the WBC (female) chairman (Malte Muller),” Farnan told the Advertiser.

“I’m going to be lobbying for Kelly to fight for the vacant title.”

Morgan added on her Facebook page: “Thanks for the messages & enquiries reference Nikki Adler's decision to fight for the WIBF belt rather than facing me for the WBC World Title.

“It is in hand, please allow (her manager) Rich (Farnan) & I to work through this & we will absolutely put the word out once next steps are confirmed.”

Although Farnan says that he will be trying to get the WBC to make the super-middleweight title vacant, the governing body do have a history of allowing their champions to sit on their belts.

Former heavyweight king Vitali Klitschko went two years without defending his WBC title before eventually becoming their ‘champion emeritus’ as he went in politics in his native Ukraine.
