Cirencester ABC travelled to Cheltenham, where two of their boxers were in action.

Having his first bout for the club was 12-year-old Jason Frayling, who faced an opponent from Welsh club Caerau Ely ABC in the 45kg division.

The first round saw Frayling land the cleaner punches, catching his opponent with some impressive combinations.

The Welsh boxer battled back gamely but Frayling kept his guard tight and countered well to take a unanimous points decision.

Next up for Cirencester was 15-year-old Thomas Varey, who also faced a fighter from Caerau Ely, in what proved to be a high-tempo bout.

The Welsh youngster looked to pile on the pressure but Varey proved to be an elusive target and caught his opponent well on the counter.

Varey took the decision on the all the judges' cards.

Cirencester coach Simon Knowles said: “Tommy dealt with his bout brilliantly; the prime example of a boxer outboxing a fighter.”

Knowles added: “What a great little bout Jason had. He boxed a quality little Welsh boy and gave a great account of himself. I couldn’t ask for any more from both boys.’’

Cirencester are back in action today as two boxers compete in Torbay.

Meanwhile, the club are looking for new premises closer to Swindon as their current base is going to be turned into flats. Anyone who can help the club should contact Knowles on 07751 884928 or 01793 354713.
