RYAN Martin will face undefeated Michael McKinson for the WBC world youth welterweight title at the Oasis Leisure Centre later this year.

The bout, which is due to take place on Friday, April 8, will also feature fellow Swindon fighters Sam Smith and Luke Watkins.

The show is being produced by Trifecta Sports, with all three fighters and trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick putting on the show.

Both Martin and McKinson will be putting their perfect records on the line for the show, which has been labelled 'Risky Business'.

Martin boasts a record of 7-0, with two stoppages, while McKinson is undefeated in 10, with a solitary stoppage to his name.

Speaking at the press conference, Martin admits he is more than looking forward to stepping back in the ring.

“My name was mentioned to the WBC when I was training with Rich Farnan. He got in contact and we had the chance then to fight for the WBC silver belt,” said Martin.

“But this has come about now and I couldn’t be happier. To get the opportunity so early on in my career is everything I dream of.

“Everyone talks about the green belt and I have a version of the world title in front of me for me to grab, and I am really happy about it.”

The 22-year-old is hoping to follow in the footsteps of current and former world champions Canelo Alvarez, Timothy Bradley and Danny Garcia, who are all previous winners of the WBC youth crown.

Martin also sees this fight as the perfect opportunity for him to kick-start his career.

“Everyone knows my career has been stop-start since the get-go. Now I need something to sink my teeth into,” added the former Walcot ABC star.

“I feel like this is the perfect time for me. No fight I’ve been in as an amateur or a professional has excited me like this one does, so that says it all.

“I expect him (Michael) to come and be 100 per cent ready. I just looked him dead in the eye and there is no tell from him, so that tells me everything I need to know.”
