KELLY Morgan says she will not ‘waste a single second’ during her enforced hiatus from boxing.

The WBC Silver middleweight champion has had to put her career on hold after suffering fourth nerve palsy, which has left her with double vision in her right eye.

However, all Morgan can do right now is wait for the issue to correct itself, which could take up to six months. Should the problem not be rectified during that time, then surgery will be required.

“If I need surgery, then the good news is that I would be fully recovered in two weeks,” Morgan told the Advertiser.

“At the moment, surgery is not an option, it won’t be considered until after six months.

“But I could wake up tomorrow and it will be all sorted – it is that kind of injury, right now I have got to wait.”

Having sought medical advice from the Great Western Hospital, Morgan will see a specialist in Cheltenham in a fortnight’s time.

“The care I got from the GWH was fantastic,” she said. “We are just seeing another specialist in Cheltenham to confirm what we have been told.

“The good thing is that once I have recovered, I will be back to 100 per cent.”

With Morgan unable to fight or spar, the former Commonwealth Games javelin bronze medallist will remain in the gym instead.

“I’m not going to waste a single second of this time I have got,” said Morgan, who was on the verge of a WBC world super-middleweight title shot prior to the injury.

“You don’t always get time to work on things in the gym, now I have got this time and I’m going to be working so hard.

“I have got time to grow into becoming a super-middleweight, there is plenty of things for me to work on.

“I believe this (the injury) is just part of my journey. The route to the top is never easy and this is just one of the twists and turns I have got to take.”
