WALCOT ABC’s recent winning run was continued last weekend in Bristol, writes DAVE VEYSEY.

The central Swindon gym’s Hannah O’Brien came out triumphant following her tough re-match with Georgina Williams, from Downend Boxing Club.

The Bristolian started well in front of her home crowd, attacking from the opening bell with left jabs and straight rights.

This led to the referee issuing the Walcot boxer with a standing count midway through the round.

However O’Brien showed great courage to step up her work-rate in the middle session and to score with fast shots of her own.

She comfortably won the second round, so the final two minutes were to prove decisive.

Both 15-year-olds gave their all during the final session, with O’Brien landing with slightly more scoring punches.

At the end of an exciting contest the referee raised O’Brien’s arm, as she was named the victor by a split points’ decision.

Walcot coach Dan Hughes said: “I am very pleased with Hannah. She really battled well after the Downend boxer made a fast start.

“She listened to my instructions and dug deep to edge a close contest.

“That’s the second time Hannah has beaten her but they have both been great bouts, so there may be a third bout soon.’’
