BOXING trainer Paddy Fitzpatrick says his stable is in a good place with no fewer than five bouts scheduled for this weekend’s fight night at York Hall.

Ryan Martin, Sam Smith, Bec Connolly, Harry Webb and Bradley Townsend will all descend on the capital this Saturday.

Martin and Smith will be looking to get back to winning ways as they square up against Victor Edagha and Darren Snow at super-welterweight and light-heavyweight respectively.

Meanwhile, Connolly will be chasing her second win as a professional against Kristine Shergold, as welterweights Webb and Townsend search for victory number three, they fight Kristian Laight and Lee Williams in London.

Fitzpatrick, who says his troops have plenty to gain from their respective bouts, is looking forward to the weekend.

“It’s like a home show. There are 23 fights and we have got five of them so it is going to be nice,” he said.

“I’m looking to get Ryan back into the mix, and Sam Smith will get straight back in there too, we are in a good place.

“Smith was due to box two weeks ago but couldn’t because of a cut on his eye, but that is cool, it’s no big deal be has been sparring on it anyway.

“He fights on Saturday and then again in June so that is good enough, it is the same for Ryan and Bec as well.”

While Martin and Smith remain slightly more experienced than the trio of Connolly, Webb and Townsend, the Ferndale Road-based trainer thinks the three of them have exciting times ahead of them, should they prevail victorious this weekend.

“If we can get a girl at 3-0 then she is in the mix and she has improved a lot in this camp actually, technically she’s improved, I’m excited for her to have the chance there,” he added.

“She’s up against an aggressive girl who is it at 4-6, so that is a big step up for a girl who has only had one fight.

“That is the type of woman Bec is she wants to be challenged. Then Harry Webb and Bradley Townsend both go for win number three in the welterweight division.

“It’s exciting for them because they are both young and next year, with a couple of wins under their belt, they can be competing for youth titles.”
