TWO Walcot ABC juniors will hope to finish the season on a high when they compete for England Schoolboys in a Three Nations event in Edinburgh this week, writes DAVE VEYSEY.

Ryan Martin, 15, and Connor Wells, 14, will face the cream of young boxers from Wales and hosts Scotland tomorrow and Friday.

Greendown schoolboy Martin won this tournament last season, and will be looking for another gold medal this time around.

He said: “I beat the Irish national champion when I boxed for the Western Counties against Ireland last week, so I approach this tournament full of confidence.

“It would be nice to sign off for the season with a gold medal.”

Clubmate Connor Wells is due to make his England debut in Scotland.

The Dorcan pupil said: “I am really looking forward to wearing the England vest for the first time.

“Like Ryan I beat the Irish champion for my weight last week and I hope to win a gold medal to bring back to Walcot.”

Walcot coach Harry Scott said: “Both Ryan and Connor are national champions and deserve their England vests.

“It will be tough for them but we hope they do well. I must thank all my coaching staff for their help during a long season.”
