Swindon to host British title fight

SWINDON will stage a British title fight later this month.

Keith Mayo Promotion’s (KM Promotions) have secured the title fight for their show on Friday, July 24 at the Oasis Leisure Centre.

The show already boasted local favourites Jamie Cox and Marlon Reid and now, topping the bill will be the clash between Courtney Fry and Matthew Barney, who will contest the British Masters Light-heavyweight title.

Victory for Fry could set up a Commonwealth title clash with Nathan Cleverly while Swindon’s Cox will move closer to his own title if he can get past tricky Ghanianian Stephen Okine.

Promoter Keith Mayo claims the show is his best yet, saying: “This is going to be the best bill there’s been in Swindon since professional boxing was staged in the town.

“We’ve pulled off a real coup to get a title fight here.Tickets are already selling fast, it will be a fantastic night for Swindon’s boxing fans and I’m expecting it to be a sell-out.”

Mayo is also delighted to have local boxers Cox and Reid on one of his bills again as well as the ‘exciting and explosive’ Leon Williams from London.

Mayo added: “To have Jamie Cox and Marlon Reid back on the bill is fantastic, it’s great to see two talented local boys boxing in their home town. We’ve got other good boxers like Chris Higgs and Dan Stewart as well as the exciting and explosive Leon Williams. Leon is a fantastic prospect and such a powerful boxer - he will be a real crowd pleaser.

“It really is going to be a fantastic show, we’ve already put two cracking shows in Swindon and this will definitely be the best yet.

“It was hard work to get this title fight so soon but I’m really excited about it and would like to thank the Bristol Fight Factory and Jonathan Feld’s WSO for helping me pull this off.”
