Penhill ABC’s James Richards went out of the schoolboy championships on Sunday at South Hampton to the experienced England International Jack Stringer from Stacey ABC in Portsmouth.

The first round saw both boys competing for the points, with Stirnger edging it.

In the second, Stringer landed the cleaner punches and scored the points with Richards, pictured right, battling back gamely.

The experience shown by the Stacey boxer was shown in the third round, and although Richards caught him with left and right hand punches, Stringer held on to win 6-2.

ABA Coach Simon Knowles said: “James gave a great account of himself he has only had half a dozen bouts so he did extremely well. “Well done James, we are all very proud of him.”
