Walcot’s teenage boxers head to Bristol today to compete in the second round of the National Association of Children and Young People competition.
Fifteen-year-olds Connor Wells, Rahim Nanji and Arron Henderson bid to pass through this stage and join clubmate Ryan Martin in the quarter-finals the following Saturday against Wales. Martin has already received a bye at this stage of the event.
Wells was last season’s National Schoolboy Champion, and he meets the talented Levi Raymond from Stevenage in a Class A, 63kgs contest that should be a real humdinger.
Wells said ahead of the fight: “After winning the School’s title last season, I am hungry to win another title.
“Levi has a good record, but I am fit and I fancy my chances to beat him.”
Rahim Nanji competes at 54kgs, and he faces the experienced Ben Grimes of Tottenham and Enfield Police ABC.
He said: “I’ve trained hard and I’m looking forward to the fight.”
Completing the trio is Arron Henderson. He goes up against Portsmouth’s Keiran Rodden at 52kgs.
“Training has gone well and I can’t wait to get in the ring,” said Henderson.
Chief Coach Harry Scott said is confident ahead of today’s fights, saying: “All three have worked hard in the gym and are very fit, but they face tough opposition on Saturday.”
The event is staged at the Broad Plain Boys’ Club, Bristol.
Boxing starts at 2pm and supporters can pay at the door.
