WALCOT fighter Tommy McDonagh is gunning for glory on Sunday in the National Schoolboys’ Final in Brentwood, Essex.
The 15-year-old won the title in 2008 and lost a close final on points last season.
To reach this season’s class three (63kgs) final he beat Luke Smith (Chard), Gary Baker (Barking), Connor Hutchins (Apex) and Reid Hill (Dagenham).
On Sunday, he meets Thomas Whittaker from Rotunda ABC in Liverpool, and with both boxers possessing excellent records, it seems set to be a quality match.
Ahead of the fight, McDonagh said: “This is the big one, the contest I’ve trained hard for since Christmas.
“If I perform at my best in the final I know I can win.”
Chief coach Harry Scott added: ”This is a national final, the toughest domestic contest there is for these schoolboys.
“But Tommy is in good shape, and has a good chance of winning the title.”
Boxing starts at 1.30pm on Sunday and spectators can pay on the door.
