Swindon RAW roar against Trowbridge

JACK Baker of Swindon RAW picked up the award for best boxer of the night after a determined tussle with Martin Wesley at a packed out Premier Club at the latest White Collar Fight Night.

Baker had his arm raised in triumph by referee Ricky Porter after halting his rival towards the end of the final session, having landed two powerful rights that heralded counts in successive rounds. Baker's win, which was judged by a panel of Swindon's experts, was heartily applauded.

Swindon RAW had held the upper hand over their Trowbridge rivals in two previous matches, but this encounter proved tougher than their earlier meetings.

Cruiserweight Joe Hadland gained the upper hand to outpoint Chris Smith in a tough clash.

In the light-heavyweight divison, Ross Sutherland also fought with power and precision to impose his authority over Ron de la Cruz from Trowbridge.

The final fight of the night featured a heavyweight encounter between Dean Mayo and John Jennings. Mayo was unable to match the determined late rally of his Trowbridge rival Jennings and was defeated.

Swindon Cars fighter Daniel Harpe fulfilled most peoples’ dream as he beat his boss Kane Woolen in the ring safe in the knowledge his job was still safe.

He proved more determined than Woolle, and a cluster of shots had the desired impact as Harpe knocked his rival down to prompt a stoppage with only a few seconds left on the clock.

It was a successful night all round for Swindon RAW White Collar Boxing, as the evening had begun with six entertaining junior encounters highlighting the great potential amongst the upcoming generation. Charity turned out to be the biggest winner, withthe Open Door Project in Gorse Hill is destined to receive a cheque from the event to help them celebrate their silver jubilee.

The next Swindon RAW event takes place at the Premier Club on Saturday, May 8th and new recruits for the bill are already being welcomed at the Horseshoe Gym in Greenbridge Road.
