Kelvin Young’s capture of the International Masters middleweight belt has made him a victim of his own success.

Manager and promoter Keith Mayo is struggling to match up Young, who won the title back in September, for his show in Chippenham on Saturday, December 3.

Mayo explained: “Normally getting an opponent for one of my fighters is not a problem, but Kelvin’s success has made several potential rivals decide to shy away from taking him on.”

Young, 24, now finds himself ranked 14th in Britain alongside other boxers who are looking to stake a claim forArea, English and British titles.

Mayo has even extended the net overseas in a bid to get an opponent.

Young, however, remains unfazed by the problem and continues to work every day in the gym with coach Islan Eltuyev on a number of options for whoever will be in the opposing corner.

He added: “Naturally it would be better if the opponent was sorted by now, but in this game there can often be changes right up until the time of the weigh-in.

“Keith has joked that he has almost worn out the keypad on his mobile and if it stops working then I’ll have to buy him another one.

“But I know he will deliver and have the right kind of opposition for me in Chippenham.

“It’s an important fight as I’m bidding for my 10th win and getting double figures is a big milestone in any boxer’s career.”

Steve Mullins – another former Penhill amateur – also features on the eight-bout card at the Olympiad Leisure Centre.
