FOUR Horseshoe Gym boxers made their debuts in the ring recently.
Ten-year-old Vincenzo Granato and Kayden Connelly came up against local boys at Windsor’s Pinewood Star Open show.
Both fights were skills bouts so there were no winners, but both Granato and Connelly gave well-controlled displays.
At the Chippenham and Malmesbury ABC dinner show, 14-year-old Andrew Reeves took on the tall Marlon Lawence.
From the first bell Reeves side-stepped attacks and caught Lawrence as he came in.
The second round was much the same and several left-right combinations put the Swindon boxer in front.
In the last session, Reeves forced Lawrence onto the ropes and threw clean punches to run out a clear winner.
Next up was 18-year-old Luke Bateman, who took on Downend ABC light-heavweight Jamie Hay, who was nearly a foot taller than the Wiltshire teenager.
But Bateman got off to a good start, pinning Hay against the ropes and catching him with left and right-hand punches.
Hay got his jab going in the second round, but Bateman made up lost ground towards the end of the session.
In the third, Bateman caught Hay early and forced him to take a standing eight count, which effectively won him the bout.
Connelly and Luke Bateman are next in action on December 10 at Broadplain ABC in Bristol.
