ANDREW ‘Macca’ McCaffrey is ready to put a ‘demoralising’ spell in the paid ranks behind him when he returns to white collar action at MECA on Saturday.

The Swindon boxer had a brief spell as a pro from 2009 to 2011 during which he had just three fights, losing his opener to Adam Wilcox on points before defeating Lee Nicholson and Robert Studzinski by the same method.

It was a career path that did not agree with the former kickboxing and white collar champion, and he will be back in the ring in Neilson Promotions’ Fight Night VIII show at the weekend.

Awaiting the 29-year-old is a rematch with Birmingham’s Stewart Tordoff, another former pro who fought out of ex-world champion Richie Woodhall's stable, that McCaffrey defeated before Christmas.

McCaffrey said: “It was a dream of mine to turn professional but the lack of available fights and the length of time required to prepare was sometimes demoralising.

“I also find white collar far more exciting as you only have a few rounds to make your mark.”

Other fights taking place on the night are a heavyweight title fight between Dennis ‘the Menace’ Jones and Dave ‘Bam Bam’ Gregory, and a clash between two undefeated white collar fighters, Luke Boswell and Paul Payne.

Neilson Promotions regular Dan Hart will be looking for his first win against the Army’s Miroslav Nehring, while also on the bill are Ryan Towler-Wilson and Andy Backinsell, Aidan Hills and Chris Bull, Jamie Canavan and Aaron White, Robbie Burton and Danny Wilson, Vince Ayris and Chris Jones and Marcin Janecki and Stuart Horgan.

Promoter Mark Neilson said: “We’re putting on a real mixture from ex-pro boxers to first-time novices and with a heavyweight title as the main event, this will be a great spectacle for fight fans.”

Doors open at 7pm. Tickets are £20 and VIPs can get in for £40. Tickets are available from MECA on Commerical Road, www.swindontickets.co.uk, any of the fighters or on the door.
