WHITECOLLAR: Brunnen plans easy win
5:50am Tuesday 26th June 2012 in Boxing
RODBOURNE MMA fighter Alex Brunnen doesn’t believe Matt Bennett will be able to handle him on Saturday night when the pair meet in the ring at Swindon Fightclub’s latest show at MECA.
Brunnen claims Bennett ‘will not be ready’ for him and is predicting an easy victory.
“It’s all about a strong mentality and attitude,” said Brunnen. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s boxing or MMA, it’s just all about that mental attitude, to just go out there and fight.
“These other fighters don’t understand what it’s like. For a long time it’s hyped up, and there’s lots of talk.
“They enjoy being talked about but they won’t enjoy that 90 minutes in the ring. It’s war in that ring, it’s warfare-you know?’’ The 20-year-old has been training hard for the fight and says he is in great shape, adding: “I’ve been training twice a day.
“I’ve been training hard at the gym and getting in plenty of late night sparring.”
Brunnen is extremely confident of victory but says he will not underestimate his opponent.
He added: “It’s either a case of severe confidence or stupidity with this guy.
“I don’t think that he’ll be ready for me but kudos to Matt, I wouldn’t want to get in the ring with someone who has fought in seven MMA fights, so I do respect that fact that he’s going to get in the ring with me.
“I’m just going to do my thing and fight. I’ll enjoy the moment afterwards, when it’s done.
‘’It’s what I’m all about, I’m just going to go out there, fight and entertain the crowd."
Meanwhile Bennett, who plays semi-professional football for Highworth Town admits he will be nervous on fight night but is confident of putting on a good show.
Bennett, who is making his boxing debut, said: “I guess there are some nerves but it is my first-ever fight.
“I’m still quite confident in myself though as I’ve been training really hard.
“I’m regularly in the gym and do a lot of running. I’ll run about six or seven miles at the gym and then run home from the gym as well.
“I’ve also done a lot of strength and conditioning training too.
“It doesn’t really bother me as everything changes in the boxing ring. I just can’t wait for it now. I’m buzzing.
“I’ve put in so much hard work, and there’s been so much talk - I just want to get it done."
Tickets for the event cost £20 or £40 VIP and are available by calling 01793 495527 or on the door on the night.
