Brave Louis earns it the hard way

PENHILL ABC's Louis Trinder shrugged off a damaged hand to clinch a majority points decision over Dale Youth ABC in a 49kg bout at South Hampton.

Trinder hurt his left hand in the opening round, but switched to southpaw and caught his opponent with some fine straight right hands.

Trinder had to keep the fight at long range but proved too good for his opponent and grabbed the verdict.

Freddie Nicoll suffered a stoppage against Lance Cartwright, from Lawrence ABC.

Nicoll started the first round well, keeping behind a left jab and catching his opponent with some good right-hand punches.

In the second round, Cartwright came out all guns blazing, catching Nicoll with a flurry of combination punches, forcing the ref to give a standing count.

After another flurry of punches the contest was stopped in favour of Cartwright.

Coach Simon Knowles said: "It was a good win for Louis after problems with his hand in the first round, but he dug deep to come out on top in the end.

"Freddie gave a great first round, but unfortunately these things happen in boxing.''
