JAMIE Cox will face international opposition when he headlines the ‘School’s Out’ boxing show in his home town next month.
Ghana’s Stephen Okine will provide a tough test at welterweight for the Swindon Southpaw at the Oasis on July 24.
It will be the 30-year-old African’s first venture outside his own continent and he arrives with a solid record of 10 wins, eight losses and a draw.
Cox, unbeaten in 11 pro outings, will be a huge favourite to make it a round dozen in front of his fans, with Okine losing each of his last four fights - two by stoppage - since stepping up in class.
But there is little chance of Swindon’s Commonwealth Game gold medalist going into the fight complacent, having suffered a huge scare in his last outing in April, when he needed a last-round knockout to save himself from a possible decision loss to Mark Lloyd.
Victory for Cox, pictured, will move him a step closer to a title fight before the end of the year.
Also high on the bill next month is the hotly-tipped Leon ‘Solid’ Williams. The Londoner faces Newcastle’s Wesley Smith at the Oasis, and will warm up for the bout with a fight at York Hall on Sunday.
Swindon’s Marlon Reid also appears on the July card, against Emeka Oragui.
