WILTSHIRE finished their Minor Counties Championship Western Division campaign without a win as they lost by 45 runs at Herefordshire.

The home side won the toss and chose to bat in excellent batting conditions, reaching 397 all out in the 90th over.

Bradley Wadland hit 61, David Exall 83 and Danny Cox 80 not out, while for Wiltshire Tahir Afridi took 5-108, moving him to 35 wickets for the season.

By close of the first day, Wiltshire were 54-2 and they progressed to 279 all out after 83 overs on day two, meaning they trailed by 118.

Michael Coles top-scored with 75 and former Goatacre batsman Ed Kilbee posted 52.

Herefordshire then attacked the Wiltshire bowling and by the close of day two, the home side were 360 runs ahead.

The following day Herefordshire declared at 325-2, leaving Wiltshire with the huge target of 444 to win in 94 overs.

The visitors were 29-3 after 16 overs when Michael Coles came to the wicket, but the Bridgwater captain then bludgeoned 186 in 164 balls Coles put on 59 runs with Kilbee (46), then 74 with Ashur Morrison (25) and finally 180 with Adam Miles (88) - a record Wiltshire partnership for the sixth wicket.

When Coles was finally dismissed, Wiltshire needed 102 off 23 overs with only four wickets left.

However, the away side were eventually all out for 399 with a lively last-wicket stand of 36 between Miles and Joe King (15) making matters interesting.
