MALMESBURY look to have fifth place in Wiltshire League Division One sewn up following their weekend win over Swindon Civil Service.

Malmesbury chased down their 155-run target with ease inside 28 overs.

Jack Ward made an unbeaten 63 and George Royle totalled 60, with both players hitting 10 boundaries.

Earlier, Civil Service were restricted by the difficult lines and lengths of Richard Gaunt, who took 4-37, and Robert Gillespie who ended with 3-16.

Elsewhere in the top division, Wootton Bassett remain on course for second place following their six-wicket victory over Spye Park.

Bassett relegated their guests after Harvey Cummins hit 64 in their successful chase of 159.

Swindon NALGO’s vague hopes of catching third-placed Urchfont were dashed by defeat to their rivals.

NALGO made 135 all out in 41.5 overs and Urchfont reached their target for the loss of just five wickets.

In Division Two, Wroughton Wranglers and Swindon A both enjoyed winning weekends.

Wranglers edged a low-scoring affair against Lacock by five wickets while Swindon A hammered Westinghouse by 160 runs.

Bradley Bowles led the way with the bat for the visitors, scoring 82 of Swindon’s 239-7, before James Parkinson and Conor Cleary each took three wickets to bowl Westinghouse out for 79.

Swindon United Churches face a last-day scrap for second place in Division Three after both they and All Cannings lost at the weekend.

Churches lead their rivals by just three points with one game to go - a head-to-head clash this weekend.

In Division Four, Swindon B were beaten by three wickets by Beanacre & Melksham 2nds despite two wickets from the evergreen Randy Roze.

Scott Cameron’s unbeaten 50 saw Beanacre over the line as they chased down Swindon’s 92.

Blunsdon could not make many inroads into Buscot Park’s lead at the top of Division Five as their match at Warminster 4ths was cancelled. Blunsdon are now 11 points behind the leaders with one game left.

In Division Six, White Horse left themselves in with an unlikely chance of top spot following victory over Goatacre 3rds.

Dave Martin hit 71 in the Horse’s total of 220-6 and Goatacre ended up 30 runs short.

Horse are still 23 points behind Purton and would require a minor miracle to become champions.

Both Wanborough 2nds and Goatacre 4ths, meanwhile, will be looking to end up top of the pile in Division Eight when the season concludes this weekend.

Wanborough’s forfeit win over Calne 3rds drew them to within four points of table-topping Marlborough 3rds.

Goatacre beat Beehive 2nds by four wickets, with Dave Horton scoring 84 of their 155-6, to lie a further two points adrift.
