NATIONWIDE House could lose their West of England Premier League status after a 36-run defeat to Marshfield on Saturday confirmed they will finish bottom of the Wiltshire Division.

House, who have struggled all year, will now wait to see how the Glos/Wilts Division relegation picture takes shape, and will drop down to the Wiltshire League if a Wiltshire-based club suffers the drop.

Having won the toss at Pipers Way, home skipper Joe Perkins opted to bowl first and his decision was justified by the early dismissal of Daniel Watson by Anthony Pettifer.

Matt Watson soon followed and, when Andy Jenkins was bowled by Perkins, Marshfield were 58-3 and struggling.

However, Russell Lodge set about the Nationwide attack with disdain and a fourth-wicket partnership of 71 with Padraig Shipp and 90 for the seventh wicket with Calum Burnstone propelled the visitors to 252-6 from their 50 overs.

Lodge ended unbeaten on 110, which came from 90 balls and included 10 fours and three sixes.

In reply, Nationwide got off to the worst possible start when Ravi Samant fell for a third-ball duck to leave the home side 1-1.

Following Mark Sheppard’s dismissal minutes later, however, Nick Clarke and Luke Bradley-Leach steadied the ship as they put on 67 for the third wicket.

Once Bradley-Leach was dismissed for 33, however, no one could hang around long enough to support Clarke.

Dominic O’Neill made 30 and, lower down the order, Perkins clubbed 22, but after Clarke was lbw to Lodge for 77 with the score on 189-8, Nationwide didn’t have it in their arsenal to get over the line.
