GOATACRE speedster Giorgio Rigali is preparing to jet out to Australia after securing a second successive season on the books of Western Australia outfit Fremantle.

Rigali will spend seven months with the Stevens Reserve side, whose first team play grade cricket - one level below state competition Down Under.

Having enjoyed a productive stint with Fremantle a year ago, Rigali is hoping to hone his skills sufficiently over the winter to force himself into the Wiltshire team upon his return.

He told the Advertiser: “It’s a great chance to go out and play with some very good cricketers out there. Fremantle are effectively the level below state cricket out there, and when I went out before I was playing in the second team and learning from the guys in the first team.

“Hopefully that’ll be the case again this year. I’d recommend it to any young cricketer looking to improve themselves. It’s the experience of a lifetime.

“Fremantle is a pretty big club and some top players have played there. Both the Marsh brothers were there, and they’ve gone on to play for Australia, Brad Hogg played there as well. It’s a great opportunity.

“I want to just get better, that’s all I’m ever looking to do. Hopefully I can improve and make a push for more Minor Counties cricket when I get back. Maybe I’ll make it last a little longer this time.”

Rigali will be training two or three times a week and playing in regular competitive matches during his time in Western Australia, and he’s also set to take in Ashes Tests at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Sydney Cricket Ground.

However, getting to Oz is the paceman’s biggest concern - he’s hardly started packing and barely has a time off before he’s due to catch his flight next week.

“When I was out there before I worked as well, and I will be looking for a part-time job, but for the first couple of weeks I think a beer and the beach will be my calling,” he said.

“I fly out a week on Thursday and I’m working right up until Tuesday.

“Then on Wednesday I’m going to see West Brom against Arsenal and my flight’s the next morning at 10am. I’m well-prepared.”
