SUNDAY saw the Wiltshire county indoor finals take place at Swindon’s Croft Sports Centre.

The winners of the four indoor competitions from last winter – Swindon (Swindon league), Chippenham (Chippenham), Burbage & ER (Savernake) and South Wilts (Salisbury) – competed for the overall county title of Wiltshire indoor champions.

Chippenham won the toss and asked Swindon to bat first in their semi final. Swindon scored steadily to reach a competitive 126-4, with significant contributions from Liam Tucker (27), Jon Sore (35*) and Jake Goodwin (30*).

Chippenham bowlers, Lee Ward, Steve Merryweather and Craig Fry took a wicket each, but their reply struggled.

Accurate bowling from Swindon meant that Chippenham only managed to reach 64-4 in reply, Will Couzens top scoring with 22.

The bowling was led by Matt Hudd, who took 2-8 in his three overs.

Holders South Wilts were restricted to 96-4 from their 12 overs against Burbage, captain Rob Pittman leading the way with 33 not out and Adam Lavis taking three wickets.

Burbage never got close to the target as they slipped to 10-5 and then 17 all out, two early wickets from Marc Burton helping South Wilts to a 79-run victory.

A sensational final saw Swindon restricted to 71 in their innings, South Wilts slipping to 9-2 from three overs in reply.

Ball continued to dominate bat as South Wilts staggered to 23-2 from six overs.

Needing 10 from the last over. Joe Cranch steered the batting side home with a crucial 32 not out to see South Wilts to victory with one ball to spare.

South Wilts will represent Wiltshire in the regional finals against Wellington on Sunday, February 15 at Taunton.
