PURTON will look to get back to winning ways in WEPL Wiltshire Division this weekend when they make the trip to Westbury.

Aaron Lee’s men kicked off their season with a good win at Great Bedwyn but came unstuck when they were beaten at home by Winsley last weekend.

Purton will start as underdogs against a Westbury side who were relegated from the Glos/Wilts Division last term. They are keen for a swift promotion and set the tone for that push with an impressive opening win over Marlborough.

However, Lee has taken hope from Westbury’s defeat at Devizes last weekend and believes his side are capable of pulling off a good result themselves in west Wiltshire, so long as they play to their best.

“We’ve got a big game as it’s away at Westbury,” said Lee.

“They got demoted last year and are a strong side but even they lost last weekend. It shows that it’s the sort of league where anyone can beat anyone. It will be a tough game and we will do as best as we can and try to get as much out of it as we can, so we’ve got our fingers crossed for a good result.”

A poor batting performance hindered Purton last time out as they were skittled for just 125 all out.

Although Lee’s men produced a valiant fightback when they got their hands on the ball, it proved to be in vain as Winsley’s last-wicket pair got them over the line.

Lee hopes his troops have learned from their mistakes and can turn in a complete performance against Westbury this time around.

“Their captain batted really well last weekend to get them over the line in the end,” said Lee. “Those sorts of games can go one way or the other but unfortunately it didn’t go the way for us. We have got to make sure we don’t make it a close game and win it outright.

“If we can add a batting display to our bowling display from last week we should be in with a good chance this weekend. Let’s just hope we don’t go lopsided the other way.”
