ROYAL Wootton Bassett coach Kevin Pamphilon was delighted that his side managed to follow up their big win at Urchfont with an eight-wicket success over Box.

The victory at Rylands Way means that Bassett, who were last season’s runners-up, have now won all three of their matches in Division One and sees them five points clear of Hinton Charterhouse.

Having restricted Box to 134-9 in batting friendly conditions, the hosts, led by in-form opener Sam Lawro who racked up his third half-century of the campaign with an unbeaten 70, eased to their target with 10.1 overs to spare.

“It is difficult to get full bowling points at Rylands Way as it is quite a batting friendly track,” Pamphilon said.

“So to restrict Box to 134 is a great effort because it was easily a 200-plus pitch.

“We were absolutely gutted not to go up last season as we wanted to play at the higher level and that is spurring us on this year.

“But there are still 15 games to go and we have to continue to apply ourselves.”

Skipper Darren Beasant added: “It is really pleasing to see how we have started. We expected a tough start because Urchfont and Box both had decent years last season, so to win those games emphatically is quite pleasing.”

HINTON Charterhouse maintained the pressure on Bassett as they made it three wins in a row as they defeated Nationwide House.

Electing to bat on an excellent surface, and with Dom O’Neill immediately into his stride with 52 off 40 balls, the visitors looked set for a huge total, however, James Jacob's 6-50 saw Nationwide out for 145.

After a third successive 50 opening partnership between Chris Antrobus (35) and Richard Newport, Hinton quickly fell to 100-5 before John Newport’s unbeaten 62 saw them home with five overs to spare. Joe Perkins was Nationwide’s best bowler with figures of 3-33.

Division 2

WROUGHTON Wranglers inflicted more misery on bottom side Collingbourne with a seven-wicket success.

Collingbourne, despite a steady opening stand from Owen Sheppard and Craig Watts, were dismissed for 191, with Mike Evans claiming 6-39.

Evans then starred with the bat with an unbeaten 70 the cornerstone of Wroughton’s winning chase.

SWINDON United Churches remain top of table despite falling to a five-wicket defeat against Swindon Nalgo.

Having won the toss, Churches batted first but the wickets of Keith Coatsworth (1), Dean Tomlin (14) and Chris Gilchrist (3) fell early to leave Churches reeling at 27-3.

A partnership of 28 between Danny Hunt (69) and Liam Brooks (6) threatened a recovery but excellent bowling from Nalgo’s Anwar (4-31) and Khan (2-31) pegged Churches back to 74-7.

Churches wicketkeeper Martin Garstang (31) joined Hunt at the crease and the pair put on a spirited partnership of 60 to get the hosts up to 141 all out.

The Nalgo batsmen, chasing 142, attacked from the outset, with Rizwan (26) and Rafique (16) getting their side off to a brisk start.

Three wickets for Churches captain Rich Martin kept the hosts in the game as Nalgo stumbled to 57-3.

But an unbeaten 34 from Nalgo skipper Raja and a counter attacking 34 from Imran took the game away from Churches.

Two late wickets for Danny Hunt (2-31) were little more than consolation as Nalgo romped home with 18.2 overs to spare.
