SWINDON head into this Saturday’s game with league-leaders Warminster full of confidence after a tight win over Apperly last weekend.

Swindon’s captain Andy Staff is hoping that win will prove a catalyst for their Glos/Wilts season having lost the opening two games of their campaign.

However, Staff is under no illusions about the size of the challenge that awaits them if they are to keep they are to build up some momentum.

This weekend’s visitors to the County Ground, Warminster, are currently 16 points clear at the top of the table having won their opening three games.

However Staff will be going into the game hoping to create an upset.

“We needed that win to kick-start our season and get it going,” he said.

“We are hoping that is the start of our season and we have got nothing to lose this weekend.

“Warminster are three out of three, they are top, so I guess they are favourites but we go in knowing that we are a decent side.

“That win last weekend gives us a little bit more confidence going into and we’ll look to upset them.”

Swindon had the perfect mid-week preparation for the game as well as they kicked off their Wiltshire Wallop T20 campaign with a four wicket win over Wiltshire Division side Purton.

“The Wiltshire Wallop is good because it means they get to bat and bowl under pressure which is always a good thing with a game coming up,” added Staff.

“It is a new tournament that started last year and got 20 over cricket back on the map in the area.

“It is a good thing. It gives people a different aspect of playing and you can go out and play your shots and we find it is quite a nice escape from training mid-week.

“It is a good tournament and you play good teams in it.”
