SWINDON suffered their third defeat of the campaign on Saturday as they fell to a 119-run defeat at Chippenham.

The Hardenhuish Park side leap-frogged their visitors in the league with the win as they skittled out Swindon for just 129 runs.

The home side had set Andy Staff’s side a target of 248 courtesy of solid innings from Arran Merryweather (74) and Darryl Losper (59*).

Scott Edmed was the pick of the bowlers for the visitors with figures of 3-46 but it was more a case of restricting the hosts.

However with opening batsmen Marc Williamson and Matt Drakeley both missing due to a wedding and work respectively, as well as Liam Tucker at the rugby Premiership final, Swindon struggled in their reply.

Jonathan Sore (43) was the only Swindon batsman able to muster up a knock of note, with the final six wickets falling for a combined 36, as they were bowled out for 129 with just under 16 overs still in hand.

“We weren’t at our best and missing a few players here and there and the day never really got going,” said Staff.

“We put them in to bat and we looked like taking wickets for the first 10 or 12 overs but they never really came.

“Once they had two batters established we were kind of on the back foot from there.

“At one point it was looking as though they were going to score 300, so the bowlers did well to keep them down to 250 but once you haven’t taken those early wickets it was more of a containing job.

“We thought we could chase the target and just before drinks we were 86-2 and then we just lost two or three quick wickets in that middle section and struggled from there on in.”
