ROYAL Wootton Bassett maintained their unbeaten start to their Division One campaign as they saw off visitors Hinton Charterhouse.

Darren Beasant’s side took three early wickets before John Newport (20) and Ed Borton (37) took the score to a relatively respectable 51-3.

However, the league leaders ripped through Hinton to skittle them for 102.

In reply, despite steady bowling from James Jacob and Liam Taylor (1-21), Bassett cruised to victory in 27 overs, with Beasant leading the way with an undefeated 43.

Bradford on Avon secured their second victory of the season with a fine team performance at Swindon Civil Service.

Batting first, Bradford posted an impressive 228-6, with wicketkeeper Ian Pinchen (56) and club stalwart Paul Vooght (97) leading the way as they shared a 145-run stand for the second wicket.

Two wickets apiece for Ben Batchelor, Mark Thatcher and Scott McNeill was the best Civil Service could muster.

In reply, the hosts faltered early on as Matthew Harrington picked up two early wickets, including the dangerous Ronnie Fernandez.

From there, Bradford continued to take wickets at regular intervals, while Ivan Braganza was the sole positive of the Civil Service innings with 36.

Further wickets from Dave Carter (3-22), Matt Knight (3-18) and Dean Bird (2-9) saw Bradford dismiss their hosts for 86.

Nationwide House fell to their fourth defeat of the campaign as the side relegated from the West of England Premier League last term went down by three wickets to Beanacre and Melksham.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Nationwide got off to a steady start as the bowlers struggled to find consistency in the gusty conditions.

Once the bowlers did find their line, only Nick Clarke (48) managed to trouble the scorers as Nationwide were dismissed for 120.

Beanacre skipper Ben Brown showed the patience required to lead his side home with an unbeaten 62.

Division 2

Swindon United Churches retained their place at the summit when they beat Wroughton Wranglers by 25 runs.

Churches skipper Rich Martin won the toss and decided to bat first and Jimmy Mann (36) and Keith Coatsworth (18) put on 55 runs for the first wicket before they were both dismissed.

Danny Hunt (14) and a quickfire 74, off 46 balls, from Chris Gilchrist steadied the ship before the latter fell to leave Churches 162-6.

Martin (28), Guy Thomas-Varian (14) and Martin Garstang (25) helped the visitors to 227 all out. Ben Webber was the pick of the Wroughton attack with 3-51 from his 12 overs.

Churches quickly got stuck into the Wroughton batsmen as opening bowlers Chris Spackman (3-32) and Martin (3-30) left them reeling at 10-4.

However, Craig Taylor (56) and Ben Webber (49) put on a 100-run partnership to repair the damage.

Dean Tomlin (1-22) provided the breakthrough wicket of Webber and once Martin returned to dismiss Taylor, the Wroughton prospects fizzled out.

Some lusty lower order hitting got Wroughton maximum batting points as they closed on 202-9.

Swindon A made a good start in their match at Collingbourne as they reached 38-0 from six overs.

However, John Aitken made the breakthrough for the hosts and while Imdad Haque claimed another wicket for Collingbourne, the visitors were 178-2 after 25 overs.

Steve Leggett was run out six short of his century, before Billy Brett, James Phillips and Owen Sheppard picked up two wickets apiece to bowl Swindon out for 261.

Collingbourne’s reply got off to a disastrous start as Tom Foreman (6-33) picked up two wickets in the opening over.

John Aitken and Dave Gale did a bit of rebuilding before Foreman picked up two wickets in consecutive balls - including the dangerous Aitken.

The Swindon bowler then dismissed Gale and another home batsman to leave Collingbourne teetering on the brink at 33-7.

Brett and Phillips then put on a partnership of 22 before Swindon finished off their opponents in the 23rd over for just 60.

Division 3

Beehive increased their lead at the top of the table as they beat Royal Wootton Bassett seconds by 61 runs.

The league leaders won the toss and quickly put the Bassett bowlers to the sword as they put on 22 in the opening five overs before Chris Warren was run out for one.

Chris Harber scored a 36-ball 40 before Michael Spong (60) and Lee Hulbert (5) shared a 40-run third-wicket partnership before Robbie Pamphilion removed the latter.

After Spong was dismissed, Gary Collins went on to reach 21, while Grant Savides struck an 18-ball 21 to help Beehive to 195 all out.

The hosts then took wickets at regular intervals, with Jayke Hudd the leading wicket-taker with 4-33, while Steve Taylor (2-29), Pete Andrews (2-28) and James Taylor (1-25) chipped in as Bassett were restricted to 134-9 in their 45 overs, with Pamphilion top scoring with 29.

Division 7

Alan Griffin and Jack Williams shared a second-wicket stand of 322 as Goatacre fourths crushed Winsley thirds by 242 runs.

Griffin struck 178, while Williams hit 154 as the Goats were dismissed for 427 before Winsley were bowled out for 185.
