SWINDON captain Andy Staff was delighted to see his side record back-to-back wins.

The County Ground men sent Gloucester City Winget packing with a 71-run success.

The win saw Swindon move into fourth place in Glos/Wilts Division, just three points behind local rivals Chippenham and Warminster in joint-second.

After the visitors had opted to field first having won the toss, openers Marc Williamson (25) and Matt Drakeley (24) got Swindon off to flying start. The pair on 45 for the first wicket, before the latter was trapped LBW by Alex Nel (3-42).

Jon Sore and Williamson quickly followed Drakeley back to the pavilion as Swindon found themselves 56-3, with Liam Tucker (7) only repairing the damage slightly.

It was a fifth-wicket partnership of 124 runs between Alex Kill (79) and Will Nichols (59) that built the platform of the hosts innings.

Jack Cowles (4-38) returned to the attack for Gloucester to wrap up the tail, but Swindon managed to post 237 before being dismissed with the penultimate ball.

“240-odd was pretty decent total, particularly as they had won the toss and stuck us in,” Staff said. “That really put them on the back foot for the rest of the game.

“We got off to a flier with Marc and Matt before Alex Kill and Will Nichols batted really well and put us in a good position to have a bit of hit in the last few overs.”

Swindon quickly made inroads to the Gloucester batting, the visitors left reeling at 49-6 as Nichols (3-11 from 10 overs), Matt Kidd (1-30) and Tom Codling (5-41) impressed with the new ball.

Tom and Craig Collinson provided some resistance for Gloucester as they put on 90 for the seventh wicket, but once the latter had fallen, the visitors were quickly dismissed for 166.

“We bowled superbly,” Staff said. “Although Matt Kidd didn’t get the wickets, Gloucester couldn’t get a bat on him for the first eight overs.

“Will continued to ask questions at the over end. All the three opening bowlers were superb.

“After the performance of last weekend (the 102-run success over Tewkesbury) it was pleasing that we put on another good team performance.”
