FORMER Bradon Forest pupil Craig Miles has been working with the England one-day international side ahead of today’s clash with New Zealand at Trent Bridge.

The young Gloucestershire seamer, who recorded career best figures of 10-121 against Lancashire last week, spent yesterday morning bowling at England’s batsmen to prepare them for the Black Caps.

The 20-year-old is a member of the ECB’s Potential England Performance Programme (PEPP) squad, and has taken 33 first-class wickets this summer.

Miles told the Gloucester Citizen: “I was told a few days ago that (ECB lead fast bowling coach) Kevin Shine had been in touch with Gloucestershire and wanted me to come up to Trent Bridge.

“I’ve done it before when One-Day Internationals were held in Bristol but this was the first time I had been personally invited.

“It’s nice to know my performances are being recognised and it was a great experience – I bowled to David Willey and Jos Buttler in my first spell and James Taylor and Sam Billings in my second.

“They are all pretty clean strikers of the ball and I was hit back over my head a few times, but that’s all part of the learning curve I guess!

“It’s an exciting time for the England team. There seems to be a good crop of youngsters coming through and there is already a lot of focus on the next World Cup.

“Hopefully I’m one of the names on the radar and one day I might get the chance to play cricket at the highest level.”
