CONSISTENCY is the key for Purton as they look to bounce back from a humbling 172-run defeat at the hands of Trowbridge.

Mike Reynolds (44) and Andrea Agathangelou (63) set the foundations for the hosts before Nick Green helped Trowbridge set Aaron Lee’s side a target of 282 with an 81-ball 90.

Purton were lacklustre in their response as they fell to 109 all out with 10 overs still remaining.

“Availabilities aren’t helping us,” said Lee. “We want to get the same 11 out on the pitch every week, and that is when you can start building a bit of momentum.

“Players then get comfortable in their roles and there's more consistency from them and you start performing more consistently. Even with that, you shouldn’t expect to be absolutely annihilated.”

After the early dismissal of opening batsman Tom Weaver for just six runs, Purton looked like making a good start but that was soon thwarted as Reynolds and Agathangelou put on a second-wicket stand of 101.

With Lee and Deepak Ramani dismissing that pair, Purton were back on track, with their hosts on just 181-7, but wicket-keeper Green was able to push Trowbridge on to a big total.

Purton were always behind in the run-chase and with Adam Woolford top-scoring with 24, Lee’s side were left well short of their target.

“It was a very disappointing result,” added Lee. “They are a very strong side and they got off to an absolutely flying start with Mike Reynolds and Andrea Agathangelou.

“We started off ok with the bat and were about 42-1 off the first 10 overs, which most teams would be happy with, but we just capitulated.”

Meanwhile, Marlborough got back to winning ways on Saturday with a four-wicket triumph at Winsley, a clash which saw just short of 600 runs scored for the fall of 10 wickets.

The Savernake Forest side chased down a daunting target of 299 with 9 balls to spare thanks to outstanding batting performances from Peter Day (75), George Fox (83) and a 17-ball 45 from Brad Frost.
